some thoughts on Taweret, Smokie, and Anubis.

Let me know what you think, I'm confused!

So its been confirmed by abc comments that the statue we see in the opening of the finale is Taweret, the goddess of fertility, who carries an ankh.

whats bugging me is why if the statue was Taweret, was the carving in the temple clearly and image of Anubis, the guide to the netherworld?

so i looked at the two Gods

Anubis: Is the opener of the way, and guide in the neterworld, the duat. He protects the circle of eternity and assists with the weighing of the heart. Anubis' teachings focus on the preparation for death and the keys to the afterlife.
Taweret/Tauert: Is the Neter of fertility, birth and creativity. She carries with her the ankh - the breath of life.

seems like we have 2 opposites, are they the jacob and the anti jacob? possibly. Jacob does seem to breath life into Locke after his dad threw him from the building. teh anti jacob wanting to kill jacob, then being smokie and killing people.

But the carving in the temple is confusing me. In it we see Anubis offering something to smokie,

but that thwarts the theory that AJ is smokie and Anubis. right?

I'm not really in the know of the egytian stuff but the statue doesn't look like any of the twaret statue pictures on google images( yeah it's not a very great source to be using) but it looks suprising similar to sobek. To me it's definately a gator head not a hippo head, and ABC has been wrong about lost before But I have no idea about the anubis picture or what the real difference is between these gods so your guess is probably better than mine.

I agree that the head looked more like a croc head than a hippo head, I'm just taking it for now that ABC is correct, because i don't think the writers would let something that big slip when they have said that they get to see the comments before they air.

I read on these boards that it was in the enhanced episode, but i haven't seen it for myself. As for Untangled, the finale episode doesn't appear to be up yet.

I haven't read it anywhere but here but I'm almost positive it wasn't in the enhanced episodes. the offical abc synopsis maybe or the abc transcipt I would think.

the tapestry looks even more like a croc. it's sobek, or sobek-tawaret-ra, or sobek-tawaret-anubis. or something.

Yes, thats what I think, I also think there are TWO statues.

when we see the first foot in season 2 (i think it's season 2) it's on our right (the islands left) but the foot we see with richard and john + the other -etc is on the islands right, (which would be our left if we used the same camera angle as we saw for the first foot in season 2)


ALSO, the statues are different, i can't remember which thread, but yesterday i was reading one and a user showed us all a direct comparison of the one in episode 8 of s5 and the one in the finale, if i recall the leg's spacing is different, and the skirts stripes (forgive me but i have no other word for em atm, can't think) are going opposite ways, also, the hair on jacob's one is quite neat and straight while the first one we saw in ep 8 was a little scattered.

I think anti-jacob is definateley Anubis and his pet is Smokey, it definateley suits.

However I'm not so sure about this jacob - sobek theory, there are no crocodiles on the island, and wiki stats that sobek's temples are usually around crocs, and also jacobs powers don't seem to add up with sobek either, I think he is a much more important/powerful god, and i don't think the producers of LOST would let enough hang on a half a page worth of data on sobek, compared to the two - to - three on other egyptian gods.

I watched the finale again last night and paused it a couple times when they showed the statue. I've seen the image floating around comparing the two as well. And I think these differences being pointed out are just created because we are looking at the statue from diff angles. when actually watching the show, the stripes are both going down. I think the image comparing the two is really stretching it. I'm not saying its not possible there are 2 statues, the one Juliette and company saw could have been a differt one than Jacobs, i just don't think we have quite enough evidence of there being two yet.

also, we know that the foot we originally saw had 4 toes, and we can assume that the foot Jacob is living in is the same foot. Sobek has 5 toes, Taweret and Anubis have 4, and what we saw in the finale definitely wasn't Anubis.
