okay so Jacob is a christ-like figure. he sacrifices himself so mankind can have free will, blah blah blah. what's interesting is that also by definition makes him an Osiris-like figure, since osiris's resurrection after being killed by Set is the direct antecedant of christ's resurrection.
if jacob comes back to life, it will be in a very osiris-like manner. maybe he left part of his sahu with each of the losties. these parts of him can be reunited with his ka and he will be reborn, just like osiris was. his spirit-soul never dies, so this is theoretically possible, he just has to beincarnated or reincarnated as the case may be.
jacob as osiris also raises the parallel of smokey as set, however smokey is also Amemit the devourer of souls, Apep the big firey snake, Esau Jacob's adversary/brother, lucifer, etc. also ben is very Set-like, as well as sorta Judas Iscariot-esque. and set is identified with sobek, anubis, and apep as well.
so Set is more of a concept than a physical presence or direct reference, just as Osiris and Christ are merely reference points in Lost's metasymbolical roadmap.
