4. who does Ben work for (?) at the season finale he seemed to not know jacob or MIB, and he isnt working with widmore, or eloise until locke tells him she is who he is supposed to meet with in LA, so where is he getting his info from? they all seem to know about this impending..war (?) and he did build the runway on island II...

2. i believe in the silly, that the MiB is the monster, and that he has the ability to assume any form...not just the dead...this is how i would explain walt's appearance over the mass grave.
3.because i believe this i think all of them stating "you've got work to do" is collusion...(can it still be called that if its all perpetrated by one being?)
4. this has been one of the bigger mysteries to me, but i think in all, he is as much of a dupe as john Locke was. I think all the people Ben killed that he though worked for Widmore, actually worked for Jacob and he had sayid kill them unknowingly. That ties into Ilana's involvement.
5. again, i believe in the silly. i'm not sure why it's so silly. I only think this for a couple reasons. a. we've seen smoky take the forms of others...b. we know MiB wants to find a loophole in the rules to kill Jacob...c. We deduce from Jacob telling the fake Locke "i see you found your loophole" that it is MiB who has taken Lockes form...d. Ben is the one to make the killing blow because he was told to follow every instruction Locke gives by an apparition of the late Alex...e. Ben is given this info in smoky's room, by what we can assume to be smoky, and told to follow the orders of a man, who isn't actually the man ben thinks he is. I dont see why theorizing that there is only one shapeshifter on the island in stead of 2 is such a leap?
6. i don't know who got booted, i can only hope there was very good cause for it. i hope they weren't anyone who's correspondence i enjoyed, and i sympathize with you on the loss.

Althought I have thought that MIB either was Smokey or worked hand in hand with Smokey, I am more convinced that MIB and Smokey are the same thing
and how we saw MIB is Smokeys human appearance.
Also I dont think Smokey takes on only dead people but has appeared as people who are alive as well.
If in fact they arent the same, then they definitely have a similar goal in mind.
There was a thought that if they buried the dead then Smokey cant use the image but I am pretty sure Bens mom was buried and we saw her on the Island. I am pretty sure it was a Smokey apparition as well

Good question. Ben was lying when he said it because his goal was to kill Locke once he found out how to get back to the Island.
I think Locke had a lot of work to do for MIB/Smokey to get the Loophole fully in swing

The runway was supposed to be a note from Jacob but I am more convinced it was Smokey/MIB who sent the note and RA thought it came from Jacob.
This has to do with the Cabin and hearing a voice in it.
The Cabin was surrounded by a ring of ash which I think kept MIB/Smokey out.
The ring was not complete and no time frame was placed on it but apparently Ilana knew "he"(who I think she was referring to Jacob) wasnt there for a long time.
Was that time before Ben and Lockes visit? I think it is.
And so the voice we hear is MIB/Smokey's not Jacob's
And I really dont think Ben thought Locke was all that special or else he wouldnt have tried to kill him and become the Leader again.

1. It sure looks like the appearances of dead people are the same entity. There are two appearances that I am unsure of however: Goodwin's wife appeared to Juliet in S4's The Other Woman. Not sure if this was really her or a vision. Not sure if she is dead or not. Walt has appeared and he is not dead.
2. I hope MIB and smokie aren't the same, but it is possible. In S2, Ms. Klugh asked Michael if Walt ever appeared in a place that he should not be. It is possible that Walt is not a smokie vision but something different, like astral projection.
3. We don't know yet about the pharse "you have work to do". It could be a catch phrase. It could be a line that smokie likes to use. However, Walt said it too and he is not dead.
4. Ben works for the same person he has always worked for.....himself. It would appear that Ben doesn't know everything, or does he? He lies and twists the truth so much that we will have to wait until season 6 to definately know.

But with Smokey, it seems he isnt really taking orders but actively engaging in figuriing out a person, judging them and recalling their past.
I think if he was really just taking orders he wouldnt need to do all those things.

I would agree fully, they all seem to be guiding the Losties in certain directions. I would assume they're all either the MIB/Smoke monster or possibly even Jacob.

Well if they are all the same thing, or multiple things. I would imagine it's just what it says. They all seem to be being pushed into general directions. They've got a lot of work to do to get to the end. Whatever that may be. Jacob did say that there's always one end, everything before it is just progress. Or work I guess you could say.

Ben works for Jacob. That is sure. Though he may have never seen him. Right before he stabs him when he's going on his whole "what about me" speech. He says he recieves all his orders through slips of paper. Probably delivered by Richard.

And what makes you think he isn't the smoke monster? It's very undetermined as of yet if they are the same, though it's far from conclusive that they aren't.
