Default What did Ben mean?

Before Ben when down the ladder to turn the wheel, said good-bye to Locke and told him, "I'm sorry I made you life so miserable". It sure seemed like Ben was referring to Locke's life before the island. So has Ben been around longer that what we presume? Does this mean Ben has had a hand in all of the bad things that happened throughout Locke's life?

What do you think?

And I thought that was Ben's way of saying good-bye (the kind when you know you'll never see that person again) to Locke.

Yea, I thought that was a strange comment as well! Well, we know that Richard has approached him a few different times....so maybe Ben used him to 'manipulate' Locke's life a bit. (as we saw he did with Juliet....)

Well, Ben was in cahoots with Richard for a number of years before he killed off the Dharma people. And we know Richard had some involvement with Locke as a baby.

This is a very good point. Perhaps they've been "preparing" Locke as their eventual leader since birth.

What that comment makes me wonder is if Locke has once again become a victim controlled by Ben to serve Ben's purposes? And it seems more than suspicious that Ben would apologize to Locke just before he moves the wheel. Do you have to do an act of contrition before you touch the wheel? Remember Locke told Jack just wait until you see what I'm going to do! He said that in an almost ethereal manner as if he would work a miracle. But it was Ben who moved the island. What was the great and miraculous thing Locke wanted Jack to see him do? Anyone?
