Horace was chopping down wood to build a cabin (think he said for his family?) but the other's live in a nice village with houses.... why was he building a cabin if he already had a home......
Was he building it for Jacob? Why? Was Horace the Leader before Ben?
I don't think Horace was building it for anyone except for himself and his family. But what happened, is that the cabin never got completed. It lingered in Horace's mind as a half-formed, ethereal dream...existing in a sort of limbo. This state was noticed by the island and the ghostly essence of Jacob 'inhabited' it.
