Fake Air France Photos

My friend related this story to me:

"Funny story I thought you might enjoy.

One of the ladies in my accounting department came in today with a printout of a chain e-mail her husband had received. It had two images of very distressed passengers in a wide-body jet with the oxygen masks and a gaping hole in the plane behind the last visible row of seats. The second image was similar, except you can see a body flying out of the hole. The caption reads something like "These images were found on a memory stick among the wreckage of the Air France flight that went down off the coast of Brazil. the brave photographer managed to keep his cool and snap these pictures as the plane went down". The photos had upset her badly last night and she told me she was crying over them for a little while.

Right off the bat I knew the pictures were ****. I had seen the images somewhere before but couldn't place it right away. I looked carefully at the grainy image and noticed something in one of them. Visible through the hole in the plane was the tail section flying off at a funny angle.

The logo on the tail section?

Oceanic Airways.

I had a good laugh in the break room after I reassured her that she wasn't witnessing the final moments of the Air France flight, but a TV show made famous for a smoke monster. "

Well geeez, that's Kate and the Federal Marshal in the front two seats on the left! Of course it's LOST!!!!! lol.

it truly disgusts me why someone would that. can you imagine if family of the victims got this email and didn't realize that those were images from a tv show?

I agree. That's just very, very distasteful.

But anyone who's been following the story should be tipped off by the fact that these stills were taken by daylight, whereas the Air France plane crashed in the middle of the night.

Nevertheless, it's horrible to make up such a hoax. I too am disgusted.

While definitely in poor taste, it does show that hearing of a plane "vanishing" as all the news reports said at first, makes people think of Lost. As my mom said, wouldn't it be nice if some of it were true? If there were survivors? Of course, the reality is not so, and this hoax is in very poor taste.

On the other hand, the humorous part is that my friends co-worker actually believed these were real, and was distressed by it to the point where she cried late at night. They are very obviously fake.

If I died in a plane crash, then I would be happy if someone took pictures of the event to show friends and family. Hopefully someone would put the picture on my facebook page and set my status appropriately. Friends would tag me in the image and people would leave funny comments about the stain in my pants. It would be especially awesome if I was the one flying out the back. You would mouse over my image and see my name and that would be how you knew it was me.

The only scenario where it would suck is if I was crying and hysterical or something. Then people would look and see me and say that guy, he went out like a little bitch.

OMG! that last part was halarious. Ya I would love to go out with a bang, but you never know...

plus if they were real, wouldn't they be in the news, not a chain email?
