I appologize up front for all the past theories and posts I might be rehashing, but I wanted to share my theory that I was just mulling over in the shower...
Theory Summary
Dharma is a tree hugging cult. They feel humanity is destoying the Earth, and want to start things over. Their scientists geeks stumbled on some break throughs on teleportation, and they have decided to teleport a group (the Others) back in time to starts things over. The Island is going to be their ship, but need to perfect a few things before they leave (infertility, fine tuning the teleporter).
Dharma is Cult
They are more like hippies, and Ben is their leader. He's doing everything to protect the mission of getting their group of saviors (the Others) back in time to save the world.
They run operations both on/off the island and have lots of high power members supporting their efforts. They are doing everything to protect the Island and it's passengers until it gets sent back into time.
They have lots of scientists working for them, and Dan might be one of their disgarded scientists.
Failed Experiments - Ghost People
The people that seem to be ghosts are actually failed teleport experiments. Jacob was their previous leader that volunteered as a guinea pig, and now is not all their. Walt was tested and messed up as well. Smokey might even be a failed test of a polar bear or something.
The Island is a Ship
Can't imagine that they would ship people back one by one. Why not send a whole island back to some point in the ocean in the past.
Oceanic 6
From the beginning the Others were selecting people from the crash victims. They were selecting people that they thought could go with them that wouldn't cause the mission to fail. Strong willed people like Jack, Sawyer, Kate, etc. wouldn't be good candidates. The Oceanic 6 made a deal with the Others, or were finally sent back against their will. If the Island is gone, who would believe them. Or they made a deal, and want to protect their friends that went with the Others on their mission.
I can go on and on, but that's enough rambling for now. I got to catch a flight to Canada. If you don't hear from me again, I'm probably lost on some island near Nova Scotia....

LOVE IT!! u have so many great ideas...many that i have shared...i love the way u put it...definitely think that the others are linked to some kind of "prevent the doomsday cult"...their brainwashing techniques to prevent earth's destruction by pollution, wars, greed, etc...maybe they are changing the future with their teachings...def are well backed up by rich org's and powerful influence...hanso...sun's dad...etc...the island is a ship idea is creative ...i like u think that the losties were all preselected....each for their own strenghs or weaknesses...love it

AZ, I actually read on a lost experience site that the Island is a ship overseen by Hanso.. I believe it was built in secrecy in Newfoundland, and constructed by the Company owned by Sun's father. I don't know how close the game is to the show, but good theories.

LOL, I have a bad memory and forget little details like that. Maybe there are two hippy cults fighting over their different approaches to fixing the world.
