This is a TV show so drama is good which is why I now think Jack is awesome. He is by far the most interesting character left on the show.
Also in his defense I'll say he just saved a woman who was supposed to be in love with him have sex with another man. If I were him I would have let the b*tch die so given that he decided to put his life at risk to save her (and her lover) I think he's entitled to a little drama.
Well that's why you're a dick too baxter. But, unlike Jack, you don't piss me off; in fact I totally "heart" you, but you're aware of this anyway, so... yeah, "ditto" to everything DD wrote.
Jack totally did this for selfish reasons, not so that Kate would be happy, but to have her come back to him. This is why I felt the need to create this post in the first place, cause he's driving me CRAZY! Jack might not be playing these games consciously, but that still doesn't excuse him.
i think the writers wanted us to be irritated by jack at certain points in the show. he was very much the hero at the start and sawyer was the bad guy then we saw jack being as ass and sawyer start to become the hero. but perhaps the reason we think jack is an ass is - we know more than he does so therefore, his decisions seem so dumb and frustrating and sometimes it would appear he even cuts his nose of to spite his face as he is so damn stubborn in trying to prove a point (especially againts locke).
No, Jack irritated me from the beginning. I hate such arrogant jerks who order people around. Sure, I felt bad for him, because of how his father treated him, but Jack really never worked on his character, so to speak. He's one of the few losties that didn't evolve. All throughout the show he remains the same old, stupid, stubborn Jack, and no amount of his "good intentions" can remedy this situation.

This is very true. We do know more than they do, and therefore, if we were actually IN their situation, would we react any differently, you think?

I think I would. Not one of the characters in the show knows what we know, yet Jack is the only one who constantly acts like a dick. That's telling isn't it? What was Sayid supposed to do when Ana shot Shannon? Rip her to pieces? I bet that's what Jack would do. Yet, Sayid contained himself, and a very wise, sensible, and sensitive human in him eventually forgave Ana. It helped that he understood that her intense fear of the Others was the one that pulled the trigger.
If I was Jack, I would want the person I love to be happy, even if not me. Heck, I too let go once the men I was in love with because our feelings just weren't the same anymore, and it was the right thing to do. Jack was, unfortunately, never capable of this.
I agree that he's a good guy, mostly because Sparty's gonna see this (in about 3 months).
AHHH !!!!!.....I jumped right on this one !!! I agree there are times I think Jack could be a little more aggressive but overall....I love him !!! I like most of the guys on LOST..just like him more !!!

Agreed !!! and in re-watching..there have been few episodes where someone is telling Jack..to just let go.....so, yes, he does have issues there, along with the daddy issues, but I think most of our Losties have daddy issues
