Thanks. Yes, I remember there being a truce and it being violated, but I just never remember that there were specifics like that where more than one or two items of it were discussed in the shows. Don't you think they should have at least waved a paper around which flashed it or something, at least?
IDK, I guess that would have helped. But, I'm sure under the time constraints they have maybe they felt that if Horace or Richard waved this paper around then they would have to go into detail about it and they just didn't/don't have the time to. They already have enough loose ends to tie together.
I think since the negative reaction of the audience to 'Expose' severely restricted the amount of episodes they were able to tell all the details of the story in, that we have to live with the introduction of information through out-of-show means. I think it would have taken up valuable air-time to come up with some kind of sensible way to show someone waving 'The Truce' in the air, just so a screencap could be micro-analysed.

OMG Chessie! Are we in an alternate universe now?????
Besides, it's all part of their very superior marketing plans...
Maybe Charlies Widmore had something to do with it and struck a deal with the DI. He had many financial interests and if it benefited him, I wouldn't doubt that he did it.
Perhaps. I've thought for a long time now that Widmore's corporation was funded by Dharma/Hanso Foundation. I think it's more than likely he exchanges valuable information for money and power.
Definitly a marketing strategy, but at the same time it is just another way that TPTB have given us more to the story through different mediums. i would most certainly view the copy of the truce as cannon since it was released with the actual dvds. I think there are so many answers we need as far as widmore and his involment on or off the island. And what exactly happened for him to get sent off the island? It drives me crazy!

Maybe some time-travellers went back in time and altered things, so that what we now think of as the past as it always happened, is actually a quite recent development...?
Yes, clever marketing. They are not going to be happy with this thread then I suppose.

yes, well, i think that tptb are just unique in their ways and love to divulge info in different ways. and, well, we love it too. and they keep the mouse happy by making all those ways cheap and alternative marketing. its pretty brilliant really.
Ort - i think its the other way around, i think widmore would trade money and power for valuable island information. but, there is something between him and dharma and eloise and dharama. although on re-watch, i think maybe when they got off the island they sort of took over dharma stuff because its the only real world link to the island. maybe widmore bought out or stole dharama.

We did find out in one of the early ARG's that Alvar Hanso had been kidnapped by his CEO (?), Thomas Mittelwerk, who may have had business dealings with Widmore. It did involve a virus that was actually being propigated as a vaccine and was used in some kind of trial in southeast asia. The bodies of the dead were to be taken immediately to DI stations for autopsies. He also had said in a video that only a particular percentage of the population was supposed to be affected. I have always thought that this is where Widmore got the bodies to fill the faked 815 found in the trench. If it is true, it would connect Widmore to Hanso Foundation, though not with Hanso himself. Hanso is being made out to be a good guy I suppose.

I don't think so. It seems to me that Widmore lived on the island for most of his life - so somehow he had to inherit a huge sum of money to build a worldwide organization like Widmore Industries, and I very much doubt that Widmore had much business knowledge to start a huge company from nothing in just a few years (unless the Others offer amazing business classes).
So I think he was given a lot of money to spill some secrets, and that money was used to build Widmore Industries.
