so semester two started. not much going on in semester two. the class with Jeremy Davies was just a really short interview. weird.
but, in advanced physics of time travel there is one thing that could be a clue here.
it says that of course there is WHH and multiverse theory. those are the only two described. but, it says that once you go to another branch in the multiverse you can never go back to the one you originally came from.
so, does that really IN ANY WAY comport with our story? is it really possible that they will be in a new universe and never come back to the old one? really? i still have faith but this sounds scary.
False. We could argue that Desmond has already done this very thing in the episode "Flashes Before Your Eyes".
well, its not what i am theorizing, i am telling you that that's what Lost University is teaching- quantum mechanics does nto allows one to go between branches and come back. hence the scary part.
but, read the part about how the method of time travel causes problems, and not the travel its self. actually, in the video the professor dude talked a lot about that. so perhaps with consciousness travel does allow you to travel between branches. idk. perhaps that's the twist.
anyway, QM does not allow one to come back from a new branch because that is its way of avoiding paradoxes. so, idk.
I don't think so. But I do think this may be what makes Desmond "special". He is the only person who can return.
You might be right about that. Desmond being special certainly allows for things to change in my estimation but I can't wait to find out what "rules" don't apply to him. Quantum Mechanics?!
Why would the past that Dezzie traveled to have to be an alt universe though? I'm not following.

Because I doubt Desmond in 1996 had a conversation with Mrs. Hawking about the island, yet Desmond from 2004 did. According to the notes from Lost University, you can't change the past, so Desmond wouldn't have been able to do that. It would suggest that he actually traveled to a alt. universe, albeit a very similar alt. universe to the original, where he did talk to Mrs. Hawking in 1996.
False! We could argue that Dezzie was just traveling back in time in the current timeline, not an alt universe, right?
That's how I always took it.
Desmond had the option of creating a new branch by asking Penny to marry him, but went along with what he had already done.
If he had asked Penny to marry him and not gone on the boat race then that would have created an alt timeline.

Hmmmmmm, I'm following what you're saying but I think if Des is special, he could have just as easily consciously traveled back in time as he could jump from one alt universe to another. I think either one is just as plausible as the other. It's just impossible to speculate what "the rules don't apply to him" means until we see more I think.
