Default 2 Q's: the ash and ben + smokey

i heard someone theorize that the ash is that of dead bodies. and certainly when sun killed that Other lady, we saw them burning the body. this seems correct to me, thoughts?

also, ben summoned smokey at one point for help. he seemed to have a relationship with the smoke. When he summoned smokie to get the freighties, it appeared he knew a lot. now, he seems flabbergasted. i understand that the surprise is that locke is smokey. but, there seems to be more here. what's the deal? what did ben know that Richard did not? RA was also shocked to see smokey. also, smokey and temple and french team?

this whole smokey/others/ben/Richard relationship is strange and does not jive. thoughts?

I'm not sure that Richard even knows that he's smokey.
I assume he's freaked out, because John is the Nemesis.

They burned Pickett's wife, but then they also pushed her on a raft out to sea. So i'm not sure they would have been able to get the ashes back.

I have a thought that it's ash from whatever turned Notorious MIB into Smokey.
And what could that ash be from......the volcano!!!!

so, you are saying richard recognized MIB in there, but does not know that MIB is smokey? but the other Others knew what they were up against, as far as who will be coming for them now that jacob is dead.

For the amount that they use; at the cabin, at the Temple, etc...
The volcano seems like a good guess.

I don't know, I was just taking a guess.

It seems like the Others had a decent relationship, as it lived underneath their Temple wall.

Why fear it, now? Hugo never said how Jacob died.

The ash is just ash I believe, but it represent a Fire-
and water which are two elements that the smoke cant penetrate.

I think I read that the Island may have taken sacrifices into the volcano, which may tie into the ash
Locke mention befor about the island taking or demanding sacrifices.

Season 3, the episode about lil' Ben.

In Ben's classroom one of the children asked the teacher about the volcano that had happened on the island.
The teacher said that it had happened along time ago.
