My heart ached for Ben also. He was standing there all alone. But did you notice that when they panned out on the scene, how evident it was that Richard was standing alone on one side of the group, and Ben was standing alone on the other side of the group. What was that dichotomy all about?

Yes! I thought that was well done and we finally see that Ben Linus is not the world's only living heart donor - he has compassion and is really quite vulnerable in that regard.

I was taken aback whe Ilana said, I'll have you and I loved when Jack backed up and looked around Hurley at Ben (on the island, right before Whidmore's sub scene).

Aw, Ben looked remorseful, and in a way resolved in his heart to do what is right from that point on. Surely going with Flocke would have been a choice for the dark side - he chose the harder right. And then we see the same decision in the sideways flash - I am wondering if the sideways flashes and the Island occurances are essentially the same event in regard to the heart/mind/spirit of the individual.

I like this thread.
Yes, it does seem the sideways is a revealing side to the characters.

Ben's all-time shining moment was his dialog with Ilana.
And when she said "I'll have you", it felt as if the sweet voice of God Himself was telling our Ben he was forgiven.
All of the stone wall came melting down. Ben's great burden was lifted.
I myself almost felt that total enveloping love and peace of redemption in that moment.
It was the best moment of Lost thus far. imo.

it really was like the opposite of last week, poor Sayid, he chose the bad side on both worlds

ben is no longer the bad mofo i grew to love. however, i still believe he's going to be the one who ultimately redeems himself by saving the island or everyone else.

Did you notice that Ben gassed his dad in both of the story lines? He just used a different gas.

I dont you can see the pain on his face and I think she believed him that he was truly sorry. When he was talking it looked like she could relate to his pain and I thought it a bonding moment.

maybe he softened her heart but i doubt it. the guy just murdered the most important person in her life and she cant kill him for fear of tipping the balance inside her. she cant let him go to smokey so what else can she do. i saw disgust on her face when she said i'l have you. no tenderness at all, she just turned her back and walked away
