Jacob is a manipulative SOB who I believe has killed hundreds, but this is a relative game where 'good and bad' are defined in relative, not absolute, terms, and the more Smokie makes outlandish promises to his recruits and lies to Claire about Aaron's whereabouts, the more I'd like to see Jacob prevail. In addition, MIB has given up - he believes humans are unable to break his cycle of corruption and destruction; where as, Jacob still seems willing to prove him wrong so there must be some greater purpose to Jacob's quest.
So many theories, so little time...
I had to give Jacob a vote. Not that I fully like him, but I think Smokie will turn out evil in the end.
After all in the Creation story with Adam and Eve, the snake told the truth (that they wouldn't die - immediately) and overall seemed more "honest" than God. They didn't die right away, but they were banished. Yes evil is capable of telling the truth or what seems to be if there is something to gain from it. I think the producers want us to like Smokie for the time being and team up on his side (while playing down Jacob to be the bad one), but that will likely change at some point...
In the mean time I enjoy watching what interesting plot twists and turns take.
And yes, Smokie's crew creeps me out too. Claire's song reminds me of some of Stephen King's movies where one character will sing some child's song in a real creepy setting...
LOCKE: You just make friends everywhere you go, don't ya?
BEN: Well, I've found sometimes that friends can be significantly more dangerous than enemies, John.

I like Smokey more than I like Jacob. I like Jacob's "team" more than I like Smokey's "team". But in the end I think our Losties, likely led by Jack, are going to realize how stupid everything that's happening is and choose their own unique path.
