It was so good to see AnnaLucia back in action again last night, in the flesh, and not just one of Hurley's "I see dead people" sightings. But, Desmond said something interesting last night, which may not seem like a major observation, since what he said has been said repeatedly so often this season, but does, I think, imply what the writers may have in store for us in the Sunday Finale. After she collected her payoff for freeing Sayid, Kate, and Desmond, Hurley(referring to AnnaLucia) asked Desmond, "She's not coming?" ... to which Desmond responded, either "She's not ready" or "She's not ready yet." To me, this is a clue that the writers are sending our way, indicating that whatever happens Sunday Night will not only involve the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 who have survived for 6 Seasons, but also will involve the passengers who were killed off early on, even from the tail section. It was also so good to see my other favorite short-lived character, Danielle, in the flesh, and actually smiling ... I think for the first time. It will be very interesting to see how many of these flash-sideways counterparts will be merged with the show's primary reality, assuming that a "merger" is where all this is headed.
In a way I feel like they will not merge exactly, but simply continue to mirror each other. I know I'm not a big fan of the FS being the result of the ending, because that would make 2/3rds of season 5 pointless.
If the island does sink in the finale, I think it would only serve to mirror how it is in the FS, just like Locke and Jack both taking flying lessons, both feeling guilty about their fathers, Kate still being on the run, etc.
Desmond does have something planned for sure. Perhaps if they all remember, it will somehow make their original timeline counterparts aware of the FS. What that is supposed to do for them, I'm not sure.

I think Desmond also said something else very telling tonight. When he was explaining that he wasn't trying to kill Locke by running him over but to make him let go...something to that effect. Let go? Let go of what? Which reality? Hmmm, leaves a lot to think about, doesn't it?
What if Smokey gets his way and then it all ends up where he destroys everything, the sideways alt is in place to continue on to existance, humanity would be none the wiser apart from those who are remembering.
You never see anyone on the island viewing the alt because they are unaware of it this would include Smokey too, the part confuses me is that in the alt the island is already sunk which means that if our island is destroyed in their timeline they have to be in the past for it to be at the bottom of the ocean when the plane goes over.
Maybe something will happen in the course of destruction that will do this...
