At the end of the episode when Kate tells Jack that she is doing something for Sawyer, Jack says that he is the one that came back and then he tells Kate "I'm the one who saved you." Does anyone know what Jack meant by that.

i thought Jack was taking credit for getting Kate off the island.

i'm sure we will find out but I like knowing now that there are ones that choose to stay!
Yeah, there is something behind some of them choosing to stay. I think Jack is refering to his testimony at Kate's trial when he said "I'm the one who saved you."

yes i agree with u all, i think he meant the trial, but mostly i think he meant getting her off the island. Id also like to point out-- did anyone else sorta connect him saying hes "the one who was here and had saved her" to when Ben was telling Juliet that he had done everything for her and she was his? It sorta creeped me out when Jack was ranting like this.... but yeah!!!!
Well if I remember correctly Ben (or perhaps someone else or more than one person)was poking at Jack about having issues with a need to save people and be the hero. A lot of his story-lines in flashback revolved around that. He lost his first wife because of this character flaw as well. Locke kept saying to Jack that Jack was not ready to leave in a seemingly spiritual sense. That he hadn't learn what the island could teach him. SO perhaps we are seeing again that character flaw is coming back to haunt him. He also has a need to control things. He seems like he is trying to control Kate and using because he saved her as the guilt factor. He also has issues with knowing when to keep his mouth shut. He didn't trust her and ruined everything.

I think we'll see Jack going back to the island at some point. It's beckoning him to come back. For Juliette? Maybe, but I think it is more than that. He needs to be back on that island.

i took it as one of those relationship fights where something can be thrown up in your face...ya know like when someone cheats then the 2 "work it ou" and the fights after that is like-im not the one who cheated....thats just how i took it just one of those topics that you can easily throw up to someone for the rest of their life

Yeah, he wants Kate to OWE him something, so he can hold it over her head, and rub her nose in it. He's a F#%!ng control freak. He's mentally abusive to women in his life.
That is definately Jack's main inner demon and driving characteristic. It's been mentioned time and again in the show. He HAS to save everyone. He married the woman he miraculously saved from paralysis cause she was so incredibly grateful and fed his savior complex. But that admiration didn't last. The island doesn't care very much for Jack cause he's too into science and doesn't have enough faith in what he can't understand. It allowed (or even caused) his appendicitis for calling the freighter. He isn't a reluctant hero - he wants to be the leader cause he's convinced he's the only one who can get them all home, although I think he really has nothing to do with it. When we finally see how the O6 get off the island, Im betting that it's a set of circumstances that Jack isn't really responsible for. But he obviously takes the credit for (at least with Kate).
