That was my initial thought too. But he doesn't fit the profile of the Jacob we've already seen.

Maybe he was a slave on the Black Rock...

Yep, the very first time we were introduced to Jacob we caught a glimpse of him. Clearly a white guy, thin long hair - people thought it was Locke.

Now, at the time they hadn't cast the role of Jacob, but I would imagine the role will be filled by someone similar to that look.

I think he is Jacob. Who else could he be? He did say that Locke would owe him. Maybe he is, Smokey. The picture Locke drew as a kid then he meets this guy at the hospital later in life. Not really sure ... screwed up episode. Nothing was answered and a whole hell of a lot was added to ponder.

I think whoever sits in that rocker is there to speak on Jacob's behalf, maybe the last person we see sitting in it on this series will be Jacob.

Another reason Abaddon can't be Jacob:

Richard Alpert (who we assume works for Jacob) was discouraged to find out that Locke chose the knife as a child.

Abaddon in the hospital, when he's talking to Locke about the walk-about, says to use only his knife.
