Default Why ben turned the wheel instead of locke?

Did christian not tell locke how to move the island so ben would? or did ben just lie about that? He said that's why christian didn't tell locke how. What do you think?

I think ben really was banished. Lockes first day as leader doesn't seem like a move the island and get banished day. I think ben has a plan to get back but I don't think he's been lying (that much). Just not telling everything. BTW I think locke is really dead

i am not sure if ben was banished or if he is just giving the whole sob story thing in an effort to continue keeping information from locke.

Ben always lies, just like he always has a plan. I think he moved the island out of his obligation to Jacob. As much as he lies, he is also a man of his word. Locke was too important to the island at the time.

I agree. I think Ben definitely had a plan in mind for what he was going to do after he turned the wheel to get back to the island, but he was under a certain obligation to do it.

Before he turned the wheel he even said "I hope you're happy now Jacob." He's got no one to lie to or manipulate down there, so I think he knew was supposed to do it and not Locke.

Exactly. It was a very personal moment for Ben. He was alone with himself. Just like the instant that Alex was killed. He had the same kind of moment, though shorter. He knew at that instant that he played his hand all wrong and felt remorse and sorrow. He has had his moments. I think they say alot about his character.

I'm assuming that Ben decided he wanted to murder Penny once Alex was murdered. Even though Ben was obligated to turn the wheel, and it was emotionally difficult for him, anyone else think part of him wanted to turn it, so that he could begin his mission?

Yes, without a doubt. Ben knew he could get his revenge against Widmore while on the mainland. I am sure he was planning that the moment Alex was killed. This "banishment" gives him the time it will take.
Suppose the "hit list" he gave Syaid are names from Widmore's organization? People in Widmore's confidence when he was looking for the island. He had to have a few trusted confidants helping him arrange things. Maybe he can't find Penny just yet. Further revenge. Besides, piecing it together, we have Ben showing up in Widmore's bedroom in England after he had turned the wheel and took care of business in Tunisia. He set Syaid up for the hit list when he was there first. Next, onward to visit Charles. See the plan? Could Penny be the Economist on the hit list?
So far, we know that Penny is with Des on the open sea and might just want to stay as far away from Charles "Daddy" Widmore as possible considering his hate of Des.

Also.. I hope we get to see the exact conversation between Locke and Christian when he told him to move the island.

I'm guessing it was for the same reason Ben got his tumor; he may have fallen out of Jacob's grace, or something.

However, if my theory about Christian having bad intentions is true, he wanted Locke off of the island, and Ben messed up his plans(unintentionaly) by thinking he knew more than Locke.

i think if christian wanted locke gone he would have told him how to move the island and told where to go not just you have to move the island. locke's a magical island leader rookie it's his first day you gotta tell him some details if you want him to do something.
