Default long stretch

what if 815 crashed because it had a previous leader and one or more candidates on board. christian could of been a previous leader and locke was on board.
kinda like metal to a magnet. maybe that's the way ben hopes to get back. locke dead and jack or ben or hell aaron could be leaders. just a thought I'm driving on the highway doing this so if it doesn't make sense sorry

I don't know of previous leaders; however, the island could have been looking for a new leader if it was beginning to reject Ben as it's leader. I think it's the island vs. Ben and the island needed someone to take over.

Could be onto something with your line of thinking. There is definitely something to be said that Flight 815 crashed on the island when it was carrying a dead body and Ben needs Locke's dead body to return to get back to the island.

However. This also made me think of Danielle finding the island, the real Henry Gale, etc. As far as we know, none of those groups had someone who was on the island before, so we can't say it's a requirement to find the island.

i like it - especially the idea that there is some kinda equivalent to a magentic force between the island and these people.

ok u got me on those parts. especially the henry gale part. they didn't have the guidelines for that thinking. but that was a smaller group of people. less drastic in terms of media. a plane crash is drastic. its bringing more then a couple people.

idk just ramblin while trying not to run cars off the road

I agree. I just brought it up as something to consider. I guess we could also make the argument that Henry Gale died upon arrival to the island and Danielle's crew supposedly had a "sickness" whereas Flight 815 survivors not only survived a massive plane crash but also had very few injuries. Could be that 815 was welcome and the other were not.

see the thing that screws with me is desmond. only one man crew and he never died. the freighter though had many "sacrifices" for the island

I think Desmond was welcomed as 815 was welcomed. So that he could push the button.

This is something that also gets me. If the button was supposedly an experiment of sorts but also had real implications if it (or the failsafe) wasn't pushed. How did this come to be? And if the Others knew that the button had to be pushed why didn't they see to it that it happened? Where was their backup plan when Desmond almost screwed up on crash day?

Henry Gale's balloon was connected to Widmore Labs. Also, the hostile Freighties got to the island so I don't think it has as much power to pick and choose it's visitors as some think.
