Walt's kidnapping....

So, Locke was doing everything he could to cultivate Walt's "potential" on the Island. He recognized Walt was special. Michael, on the otherhand interfered with walt's special jedi training...or whatever Locke was teaching him.

So, was Walt kidnapped by the Others to further investigate Walt's abilities? If Locke had been allowed to cultivate Walt's talents, would he still have been kidnapped?

yes because it was important that they get rid of walt due to aging issues.

however, if they had planned the characters details and casting a little better - would walts story have gone in a different direction?

I think that they would have taken Walt either way. They wanted to study him and learn from him. I still say that Bea Klugh is Walt's maternal grandmother. Locke may have seen something in him, maybe not. Locke was so busy defining his own existance on the island that I don't really believe he thought that much about Walt's until the knife throwing event. When Walt proved he could see with his minds eye. Locke just had this aire about himself that he was all seeing and all being of the island. He was so selfish in a way. So high and mightly about his presence on the island. I don't know for sure if he was truely interested or not in Walt's mind.

Im not so sure Locke plays any role as a teacher to Walt or plays any role in his kidnapping. If you notice Locke does spend alot of time talking with Walt but as far as teaching him he did nothing more than be a pal. Micheal did not want Walt near Locke and John respected that. As for his kidnapping he kinda can play an open ended role. We know he is special but have yet to find out why. But we do know that the Others mainly took Walt for multiple purposes. It made Micheal kill lead Jack Sawyer Kate and Hurley to be captured, It freed Ben, Took out Anna Lucia who was about to construct and army for Jack to take out the Others and It freed Ben. So it was mainly a plan constructed by Ben to break up the leaders of 815 and a ploy to get Jack to operate on Ben. Simply taking Walt letting him type to his father allowed for all of this to happen. By doing so the Others free Micheal and Walt and allow them to return home however Ben knew he had complete control of when Micheal would return. In conclusion what I belive happened was possibly a test similar to Lockes childhood test and he probably choose the same and failed. This is why the Others were eager to allow them to go free.

Thanks for the input, Locke does seem to be a great guy amidst a bunch a low lifes. He befriended Walt and crafted a cradle for AAron on Claire's birthday. He's always looking out for his fellow losties.

Could the Others see inside the Hatch with a hidden camera? How else would they know when and where Michael was on the computer? And how were they linked in to the Hatch computer?

They could def see into the Hatch we know that the Hydra and Flame Stations had the same type of TV moniters that the Pearl had. So we dont even know if it was Walt typing or if Michael was seeing things that the Island wanted because when he looks back at the screen the words are gone. Another thing is that the computer had been attempted as a means of typing and the computer would not imput word only numbers.

I have no idea why, but does anyone else have a feeling walt may return 'from the future' as an older person - I doubt walt's character will be thrown aside forever and forgotten about by the writers.... plus using him at a different age will solve the age problems of the actor growing up!

Well even more so...The O6 has lived for 3 years off the island...it's been around 3 years in real life, for the actor who played Walt to age naturally, hasn't it? Did he end up on Ajira 316 somehow?

They've already done that. An older Walt went to show up to see Hurley.
