Just a question....why was Richard upset when young Locke chose the knife??? Isn't that the knife that John used last night to help Juliette and Sawyer.....

I have been tossing this around in my head. How does this sound. All of the six items are someone's (two people's?) constant.
the compass - Locke & Richard
the comic - Hurley&Walt
The book of Laws -
the base glove Jack& ?
the sand - ?
the knife- Locke& ?
When Locke chose the knife instead of the compass, Richard knew he had more work to do maintain his constant.

I believe Richard wanted Locke to choose the compass. Richard gave the compass to Locke and told him that "the next time he saw him he would not be able to recognize him". Is that because Locke would be a child? Not really sure how it is suppose to add up but I believe it is of some importance.
I was thinking about that as well but just can not make it fit. We know a memory can be planted into the future. But, the past?? It just doesn't make sense.

I don't think any of the other items actually belonged to anyone else, or at least, Richard doesn't know that they do. He just wanted to see if Locke could truly remember what he had owned, without telling Locke exactly what he did have.
Maybe Jack or someone else will have a flashback, though, and we'll see Richard coming to visit them with these items...
This is a good thread to reactivate because it relates to some more recent threads here on S5. If Locke is connected to Walt through the knife, then maybe Locke is Walt's constant and when Locke dies, Walt dies too? Does the constant being used as a weapon and killing people, actually cause several deaths to happen around Locke, who is using it? There seems to be a lot of death happening when Locke is around, don't you think? It was Walt who saved John from giving up in the pit. Just a thought.....How many people has Locke actually killed with that knife? People/animals around Locke who have died:
wild boars and any animals he hunted with his dad
Boone
Mr. Eko,
Charlie
Naomi
Mrs. Klugh
Claire
Locke's Dad
The dead guys while Locke is time traveling
So what is with this knife? Richard was not pleased when he picked it!

Yes, it is almost staring to look circular. That can't be good.
I had not really thought of that. He is/was doing the same thing did Daniel to Desmond, only backwards in time. Well, for Locke, that may be forward on his own personal timeline.

Thanks for the input. It is nice to be back here, were I can talk about LOST and not hear "Oh, I hate that show".
