sayid told him to do the opposite of whatever ben tells him...ben told him to come with him so he did the opposite and ran. remember when he was in the police station in season 4 and they said they can have him locked back up in santa rosa and he broke down with a sense of relief i guess? well, i think this time hurley assumed he would be carted back there again and its his safe haven.
when ana lucia spoke to him, i am sure she meant that he needed to avoid drawing attention to himself whilst driving the car, not to avoid cops forever.
of course, there is also the option that ben knew hurley would never agree to go with him and its all a big set up.

Sayid is just on vacation. I think he still works with Ben. He doesn't like it, but he has picked a side. This could change if/when a showdown with Des and Penny occurs. But, I may be wrong, I tend to not believe what I see.
Since nothing is as it seems on Lost. Are we sure the guys that Hurley ran to were cops? At first I thought that they worked for Ben. However, they could of been working for Widmore, just a thought. I know Ben told Mrs. Hawkings what happened but he could of been lying. He seemed a little afraid of her.

Afraid .... yes I would agree there was a hint of fear or apprehension when it comes to Ben and Mrs. Hawking.....

Why did Hurley allow himself to get arrested? I just rewatched LOST....why did Hurley go outside to the police? Of course, the obvious reason is the fact that Ben was in his house and Hurely was scared....he then remembered what Sayid said when he told Hurley to do the opposite of whatever Benjamin Linus said....! So, Ben is in Hurley's house, scaring Hurley and Hurley thinks he is outsmarting Ben by running to the police where he thinks he will maybe be protected from Ben....?!? Yet, Ana Lucia specifically told Hurley to avoid the police....! Did he have a lapse in his memory b/c Ben scared him so badly....and after Ben talking to Mrs. Hawking it is apparent that this little set back of Hurley is a big deal....how is Ben going to fix this???
Maybe Ana Lucia dressed as a cop will find a way to spring him. LOL Wouldn't that be great if with time travel none people who dies on the island are really dead. Think of Boone, Shannon and the others coming back in the final season. I think the souls of the "dead" people are what make up the smoke monster.

what if they worked for Mrs Hawkings? she seems a lot smarter than Ben mabey she sent people to get the o6 as she does not rate Ben to well,
the guy outside the mental home, the lawyers that go to Kate and the guys at Sayeeds flat, could she have hired them all??
