Since you didn't have Death by Ben as an option I chose suicide. I don't think he would pick a disfiguring method of death---he's already suffered from that with his legs and the paralysis. But, maybe Ben staged a hanging by having the rope be frayed and John lying on the floor with the rope around his neck. This might make it look like his weight broke the rope, but not before he suffocated. All the while Ben had actually done something to kill him or to put him in a deathlike coma. Ben always has a plan!!!
Or, because they are trying to show Locke as the sacrificial hero, they will have him courageously, single-handedly, commit suicide as the only way to save the island.(Richard: you have to die.) Remember how Christian could not help him? Locke having to do it himself seems to be an important theme here. Of course Ben seems to have messed that up previously--- as in turning the wheel.....But we still do not know Ben's motives and that may make a huge difference when and if it is revealed---the truth.

I think Ben did it. One of the reason is that Locke made a promise to Jin that he wouldn't tell her to come back, and Ben wants everyone to come back. Probably got into a squabble and Ben kills Locke.
On the other hand, Maybe Locke isn't dead, only faking it so that the rest would come back as well. Which would probably explain why Ben is taking Locke's body back with him.
It also saids he dies in NY. I wounder what business he has in NY? The only person I can think of, as to why Jhon goes to NY. is Walt. If im not mistaking Walt lives in NY. Pluss I wounder if Walt was supose to be off the island or did he leave when he wasn`t supose to be? Walt does say Locke visted him before he died. So im thinking Locke told him he needed to get back to the island and he also tells him whom he should go with and how to get back.
My guess as to how Locke dies. I think he kills him self because it`s his destney as Richard said " your going to have to die John" or somone kills him because Locke asked them to.

Actually with what Archangel posted, I think Walt kills Locke. Not with any gun or anything, but I remember Walt before his dad picked him up, that he was killing birds. I think Walt may do that (unintentionally) to Locke. The quote above is also another possibility.
Ummm maybe his father will come back and steal his other kidney, and maybe even his heart.
But seriously, I still think Ben will have someone else do his dirty work. I don't think Ben will be the one to ultimatley kill Locke. Maybe Ben will have some kind of character change soon, but so far he hasnt been the type to just walk up and kill one of the survivors, even if it is to further his own cause. I have a feeling he will some how involve Sayid though (since Sayid is obviously a killing machine lol)
Ben explains to Jack, John didn't visit him...he visited John. This "visit" was probably something more around the lines of just Ben shooting John and taking Jin's ring.
