Ms. Hawking and suicide
In the latest episode, '316', Jack asks Hawking why Locke would commit suicide. Maybe it's just me but it seemed that when she answered something along the lines of "There are many reasons", she was affected at a personal level, in contrast to her usual teacher-like self.
Does anyone think her son, Daniel, may have commited suicide? So far as we know, her only goal is more or less a selfless one, but perhaps she's trying to manipulate time to stop him from doing that. We know that while Ben and Locke and Jack and co. work towards what they believe is in the best interest for everyone, they all have their own personal issues and desires.
As for why and when Daniel would kill himself, well, I think that may be where Charlotte comes in. Before she died, she told him that she remembered a "scary man" as a child, and that it was him. Was he scary simply because he knew about things from the future, or had he changed at that point? Mad? Depressed? Crazy? Even though he knows he can't change anything, he still tries to convince Charlotte never to come back(unless he only warns her to keep the past from changing).
I'm probably wrong, but I'd like to know what others think.
