What Time is it on the Island?

I'm confused as to how time has passed on the island.

We know that three years passed for the O6 from the time they left until the time they got back. But how much time passed on the island? Locke told Widmore that 4 days passed since he met the 17-year-old Widmore, but then in next week's previews we hear Sawyer ask if three years is long enough to get over somebody.

So did three years pass on the island that the writers just skipped over? Or have only a few days passed on the island while three years passed everywhere else? Have they explained this somehow on the show and it just went totally over my head?

They're on Eastern Standard Time but in a different time zone.

I'm guessing that's one of the island's mysteries . . . how time passes . . . I think their basically in a different dimension. It kinda explains why u have to be at a certain compass bearing to reach the island, kinda like a wormhole . . . now I'm no scientist but that's what I'm guessing.

Its not like an unexplained time gap on the writer's part, because Aaron aged, so the 3 years definately passed (off the island), but they have been experiencing time flashes so they dont know how much time really passed (now that I think of it, thats probably why, lol).
