Default Tell me why Penny/Desmond are not dead!

Please? After seeing Ben bloodied at the marina, "tying up loose ends" or whatever he said, I've been thinking that Penny is dead, and I just remembered the Island isn't done with Desmond, so I guess he can't be dead.. I don't want it to be true (Ben killing Penny), so I need some good convincing that it's not why Ben was bloody..

Unless Ben killed Penny without Des knowing it (and Des seems in very close contact with Penny), I would think Des would have went postal on Ben when they met at the Lamp Post if he thought Ben harmed or even attempted to harm Penny. Also, I have a feeling Penny can take care of herself.

Because, Desmond left the lampost way before Ben. Ben stuck around to wait on Jack in his little meeting and everything. Desmond brought his wife and child all the way there, so its more than likely he went straight back to them. With Desmond there with his family,he wouldnt let anything happen. He's a well trained soldier.
On top of all that, it would be very plausible that desmond and Penny did NOT sail all the way to Eloise. That is quite a long journey by boat and would be very tough to make. Maybe the whole "standing by a marina" thing is there to throw us off.
Actually the last meeting the Oceanic 6 had with Ben was at a marina. Very realistic that he could have gone back to take care of something else right there

Penny dead, and Desmond headed back to the island is a very plausible scenario. As for any convincing, without any clues other than Ben bloodied up we can only wait to see what actually happened to Ben.

Ben probably did at least try to kill Penny. But I doubt she would go quietly. I think she probably kicked his butt while he was trying. We'll just have to wait and see if he got it done or not. Can't imagine he'd just let it go if he failed, though. If at first you don't succeed, try try again!

Penny said she would not go with Desmond to the States. I'm pretty sure he's alone in his visit to L.A. Ben probably went through a bad neighborhood. Heck, I would beat the crap out of him if I had the chance. Ben could have killed Eloise so as not to leave a breadcrumb trail. That room underneath the church is just creepy anyhow. It also could have been Sayid that beat him up. Don't know how Sayid got from a Latin American island doing humanitarian work to L.A. in handcuffs.

On another thread someone mentioned:

2. Charles Widmore's ultimate purpose can be described as "good" ~ Undecided.. I'm leaning towards True right now, but he was just so mean to Desmond, I almost don't want to see him be a good guy!
I did not want to hijack that thread...

I have been watching through Season 2 again. I think that Widmore wants to do whatever he can to scare Desmond away from Penny (insults, bribes, etc.), because he knows that her association and devotion to Desmond will result in her death.

...even if she is not dead yet.

I'm guessing that she either will die or her life will be ruined because of Demond. Widmore knows that, and his poor treatment of Desmond is not personal. The irony is that the harder Widmore tries to keep Desmond away from Penny, the more Desmond is thrust into the series of events that leads him to the Penny/Ben connection.

What do you think?

In season 2 Widmore is like Hawking - they kept Des away from Penny so he would go to the island.

remember that the game was changed when Widmore killed Alex, Ben's daughter. So, remember that Ben is going to get even with Widmore by killing Penny. Causing Desmond to somehow return to the island to get Ben.....

If Des & Penny took a yacht from England to LA, it would take a couple weeks - I think Des FLEW to LA - Penny probably went with him but I don't think they're at the marina at all -
.. but what do I know - I have NO clue what's going on
