Default Let's talk about Ethan

I know there are some other threads about Ethan, but I came across a couple of interesting things. I was reading about the King James Bible and the book the Epistle of James and came across the word ROM.

Okay, so I am by far not a bible expert so maybe someone can shed some light in this area.

I was wondering why Ethan's last name wasn't Goodspeed when we first met him. It is Rom. The questions remain....why did he change it? Did HE change it? why Rom?

I came across Rom 3:16. It wasn't the 3:16 part that ended up being the important thing, it was the Rom. From what I can tell, Rom is commonly used in short for ROMAN, which appears a lot in the bible. Correct me if I'm wrong. Does anybody have any knowledge of and bible versus that may relate to Ethan, perhaps in Rom 1?

Horace Goodspeed (Ethan's father) could be based on QUINTUS HORATIUS FLACCUS, know in English as Horace. Before he died he was famous: the Emperor Augustus commissioned him to write the fourth book of Odes. He died eight years before the birth of Christ. --- If we speculate that Jacob is like JC/Lord, this would go along with seeing Horus building Jacobs cabin maybe, if it was before he existed? Stretch?

Maybe I'll check out some of these poems. I gotta work! DAMN THIS LOST OBSESSION!!!

The name is also an anagram for Other Man. So I don't know if there's much signifigance to the actual history of the name; or if just fit for a cool anagram.

I think Ethan will be taken by the Others when he is still a very young child and will brought up believing his name is Ethan Rom. If they allowed him to keep the Goodspeed name, then he would likely connect himself to Horace.

Either that, or Amy didn't take the Goodspeed name and Rom is her last name.

Or, when he defected or was taken by the Others, they changed his name.

It has nothing to do with the bible. ROM means read only memory.

Yeah I know what ROM means in computer language. Are you suggesting his last name has something to do with that? Or are you just being an ass? A LOT of the show has to do with religion and the bible, this very well could as well goodspeed absolutely does, so I won't rule out Rom either.

i'm with Unbridled Pageantry on this one. i think "Ethan" is the significant name here (as significant as name references get in this show anyway). Rom was probably just added to make an anagram.

The anagram of he name is pretty cool, it could be just that.

I guess the smiley would look a little something like this... (*) or (!)
