Sub/Other Town Location Continuity Error
I just returned from a trip to Oahu where I happened to come across the location for the Others village ("New Othertown") on the North Shore. The filming for the season 5 finale had just wrapped two days before and there were still film production trucks parked along the road. It was fun to get out and walk among the yellow houses where so much of Season 3 takes place.
Anyway, this prompted me to re-watch the episode where we first saw this location...Season 3, Episode 1 ("A Tale of Two Cities"). After the plane is seen coming apart in the sky and Ben dispatches Goodwin and Ethan with their orders, there is a series of pull back shots that show the village nestled at the base of a mountain in a valley that is an obvious inland location. There is no ocean or shore within quick walking distance.
Yet in a later episode that season (#13 "The Man from Tallahassee"), Locke, Kate and Sayid infiltrate the village to rescue Jack, and Locke forces Ben to tell him the location of the sub. From the cutting of the subsequent scenes (Locke at the sub, and Jack and Juliette witnessing the explosion) it is inferred that it is quite nearby, which would make sense from a logistical point of view. Yet that earlier long shot makes it clear that the village is nowhere near the shore.
Anyone else notice this? Or run across an explanation that I am missing. My guess is it's just a production error.
