Even more radically, is Hurley truly shipwrecked on a remote island, or is the island simply a metaphor representing the confines of a psych ward that serves as a holding place for Hurley's comatose body? Is Libby real? Hurley finds it difficult to believe that a woman so beautiful inside and out could possibly be attracted to him. Apparently, two kisses from Libby are enough to convince Hurley that perhaps he really is on an island and Libby's affection for him is genuine. If he's correct, then he has much to look forward to. If not, why end it all by jumping off a cliff as Dave had suggested, only to find himself waking up in a psych ward, or worse, assuring himself one doozy of a "cluckity-cluck-cluck day" by becoming a rotting mass of out-of-luck-beach-muck. At this juncture, Hurley opts to get by with a little help from his friend Libby, to head back to camp, and to move forward with what appears to be his life. While much is not evident to Hurley, what is clear is that in Lost there remains a core realization of basic goods and evils. If Libby lures Hurley to a premature violent death, this is bad. If she turns out to be a true friend and helps him recover, this is good. These value judgments remain stable even when we are not clear about the conditions of our own reality.

So how about it readers? How would YOU fare if faced with situations similar to those experienced by the survivors on Lost? Can you look yourself straight in the face, and know in your heart of hearts, that you'd get by with a little help from your co-castaways, with your character and integrity fully intact?
